Our Land, Our Future| eWAKA'S Impact on Environmental Restoration.

Updated: Jun 6

The shift towards a more sustainable and economically viable future in the logistics sector is an important mindset taking formation among young delivery riders in Kenya.

The focus is on continuous improvement and learning about core and flex strategies for making a decent living while advocating for a greener and more sustainable future.

Imagine this

Riders have access to reliable and well-maintained electric bicycles or motorcycles to make their deliveries. They have a stable and high income to support themselves and their families. They are also part of a community of fellow riders with access to a support system for personal and professional issues.

Luckily, the revolution has begun.

Great initiatives and campaigns have emerged to raise awareness of the benefits of land restoration. Young people are now leading the change, advocating for a greener and more sustainable future.

By providing opportunities like those offered by eWAKA, we can restore the environment one job at a time.

Among many, Douglas, a 27-year-old rider at eWAKA Mobility, stands out.

His story is a testament to the power of hard work and dedication to achieve your dreams while contributing to a better, greener world for all.

After a long exchange due to his very busy schedule, we eventually managed to have a proper meeting and hear the story of how he started.

The Journey of Douglas: eWAKA'S Impact

From Security Guard to Successful  Delivery Rider

Douglas's story begins in Kilimani, where he worked as a security officer. Despite his dedication, his 12-hour workdays earned him only 10,000 Kenyan Shillings (76.63 USD) per month. With a wife, and two children to support, Douglas was determined to find a better way to provide for his family.

In 2023, through a friend's recommendation, Douglas discovered eWAKA, a company dedicated to creating job opportunities while tackling the issues of congested streets and polluting vehicles through their electric bikes. He joined as a delivery rider, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

Douglas's transition to eWAKA was transformative. His hard work and dedication quickly paid off, and he found support in eWAKA's fleet management team of experts.

They provided him with free advice on optimizing his performance, enabling him to make more deliveries and significantly increase his earnings.

Today, a year later, Douglas's earnings have tripled. He earns up to 45,000 Kenyan Shillings (344.83 USD) a month, working under the eWAKA Fleet.

He has also become the proud owner of a robust electric cargo bicycle—Shujaa 2.0—thanks to the lipa mdogo feature offered to eWAKA riders through Fortune Credit.

His story is not just about personal success; it's about the broader impact of land restoration, halting desertification, and building drought resilience.

Inspired by the legacy of Wangari Maathai, the first African woman, and environmentalist to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, Douglas understands that it's the little things citizens do that will make the difference.

His little thing is intentionally participating in a revolution to reduce CO2 emissions. What about you?

Douglas's journey doesn't end here. He dreams of one day becoming a renowned leader and politician and hopes to serve with dignity and passion. And what better way to enjoy his success than in a fresh and beautiful environment, surrounded by his family and friends?
